Hong Kong provides separate legislative protection for design, and the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department accepts design registration applications and conducts formal examination. After approval, the designs are registered and published.

1、 Required documents for application

1. Design registration request letter;

2. Appearance design drawings (drawings or photos); Its size - the drawing should not exceed 210 × 297mm, and the photo should not exceed 160 × 160; The surrounding blank space shall not be less than 30mm;

3. A novel statement;

4. For graphic design or textile design, in addition to drawings, samples can also be provided, but they need to be placed in separate envelopes or packaging, with a length not exceeding 30cm and a weight not exceeding 4 kilograms; 

5. Anyone who requests priority shall submit a certified proof of priority document within three months after the Hong Kong application date. If the document is written in a language other than Chinese or English, a verified Chinese or English translation shall also be attached.

2、 Application time:

1. Required time: 3-6 months

2. Validity period: It is valid for 5 years and can be renewed 4 times, each time for 5 years. The total protection period can reach 25 years.

3. The first period of validity after registration is 5 years from the application date, and the renewal fee can be paid 3 months before the expiration of the validity period, which can be extended for 5 years.
